A Day Away ("we", "us", or "our") operates the A Day Away weather alert service (the "Service"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

Information We Collect

When you create an account or use the Service, we collect:

Account information — your name and email address, provided directly or via Google Sign-In.
Alert preferences — locations, weather conditions, and notification settings you configure.
Device tokens — push notification tokens used to deliver alerts to your device.
Usage data — basic logs of requests to our servers for debugging and security purposes.

Rainbow Alerts (No Account Required)

You may opt in to same-day rainbow condition notifications without creating an account. When you enable this feature, we collect:

Approximate location — your browser's GPS coordinates, resolved to a weather grid (city/region level). Exact coordinates are stored only to look up the correct weather forecast area.
Push notification token — a device-specific token used solely to deliver rainbow alerts to your browser.

This data is not linked to any identity and is used only to send you rainbow condition notifications. No account is created and no email address is collected.

Opt out: Toggle the 🌈 button on any page to off — your data is deleted immediately.

Automatic deletion: Anonymous subscriber records are automatically deleted after 30 days of inactivity.

How We Use Your Information

To deliver weather alerts and notifications you have configured.
To send transactional emails (alert notifications only — no marketing emails).
To maintain and improve the Service.
To authenticate your account securely.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the Service:

Google Firebase — authentication and push notifications (Google Privacy Policy).
Google Cloud Platform — hosting and database (GCP Privacy Notice).
Resend — transactional email delivery (Resend Privacy Policy).
National Weather Service (NWS) — weather forecast data (US government, no personal data shared).

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We only share data with the service providers listed above as necessary to operate the Service.

Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.

Security

Authentication is handled by Google Firebase Auth. We do not store passwords. Data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore and protected by Google's security infrastructure.

Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page when we do. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
